About Daily Edge and how the numbers are calculated
By Overfit Labs · Updated
Daily Edge is a small, free trading journal with crypto charts, a paper-trading simulator and a watch-only portfolio tracker, made by Overfit Labs. It is built around one question: do the days you keep your own rules actually go better than the days you don't? It's a record-keeping and practice tool, not a signal service and not financial advice.
Principles
- Your data stays on your device. Journal, paper accounts, layouts and portfolio live in your browser's local storage. There is no account and no server of ours storing them.
- No secrets, ever. The portfolio takes public addresses only and refuses anything that looks like a seed phrase or private key.
- Honest about limits. Simulated fills, fees, funding and liquidations are simplified models, and the app says so where it matters.
- Free core, one-time Pro. The journal, charts, paper trading and portfolio are free. Pro is a one-time $9 payment in bitcoin. See the FAQ.
Methodology: how the statistics are calculated
All statistics come from the trades you log (or close in paper trading). Nothing is estimated or adjusted.
- Win rate = trades with P&L above 0 ÷ all trades. Break-even trades count in the total but not as wins.
- Average win / loss = gross profit ÷ winning trades, gross loss ÷ losing trades.
- Profit factor = gross profit ÷ gross loss.
- Expectancy = net P&L ÷ number of trades (average dollars per trade). Average R is the mean of the R values you entered, for trades that have one.
- Max drawdown = the largest fall of cumulative P&L from a previous peak, in trade order.
- Disciplined day = a day where every rule on your checklist is ticked. The discipline split runs the stats above separately on trades from disciplined days and from all other days, and shows the difference in expectancy per trade.
- Mood and setup splits group trades by the mood you logged and by setup tag (case-insensitive; untagged trades are grouped together).
- Paper liquidation (isolated margin): long ≈ entry × (1 − 1/leverage + maintenance rate), short ≈ entry × (1 + 1/leverage − maintenance rate), with a 0.5% maintenance rate by default. Fees default to 0.02% maker / 0.05% taker, plus a small slippage on market fills.
Small samples are noisy, so a difference over a few weeks may be luck. See trading discipline and rule-breaking days for how to read it.
Data sources
Prices and candles: Coinbase Exchange public API (Kraken fallback). Balances: mempool.space / blockstream.info for BTC, publicnode.com for ETH and SOL. Your browser fetches these directly. Charts use TradingView Lightweight Charts™ (Apache-2.0).
